Sara Wickham’s Online Courses

Gathering in the Knowledge – 5-12 November, 2021.

This is the last ever run of Gathering in the Knowledge 2021.

Increase your knowledge … develop your confidence … meet like-minded midwives and birth folk from all over the world … and all in the comfort of your own home!

Dr Sara Wickham’s online courses offer world-class, woman-centred continuing education for midwives and birth folk, combining up-to-the-minute evidence with a heart-centred approach to caring for women and families.

You get all the benefit of Sara’s lecture series on the relevant topic (which have been broken down into short chunks and lovingly videoed just for these courses – you won’t find them anywhere else), along with podcasts, written activities, discussion threads and loads of other resources.

You’ll find lots of triggers for thought, reflection and conversation, and a fabulous online platform which will allow all course participants to chat in a private, easy-to-use forum for the duration of the course.

All of our online courses begin on a set date and you will go through them with a group. Once the course opens, you have 24/7 access to all the material. They begin with a facilitated week in which you can chat and connect with Sara in our discussion threads. All courses include a live webinar in which we can connect in real time. Sara says farewell after the first week and you then keep 24/7 access for a further month before the course closes. So you can keep chatting with other participants and work through the material at your own pace.

What’s new?

We have now set the dates for the FINAL run of Gathering in the Knowledge 2021:

Gathering in the Knowledge – 5-12 November, 2021.

Gathering in the Knowledge is Dr Sara Wickham’s popular ‘annual update’ online course.

It is intended for midwives and birth folk (by which we mean student midwives, childbirth educators, doulas, doula students, hypnobirthing teachers, pregnancy yoga teachers, therapists and others who work with women and families in the childbearing year and people aspiring to work in any of these fields who have done a bit of reading and would like to know more. Now you know why we abbreviate that to ‘birth folk’!)

It helps people get up-to date with the latest birth-related research.

It also helps people to gain confidence in understanding, appraising and using research and all of our courses offer a community of like-minded people to learn with.

 Gathering in the Knowledge

Next course dates:

Gathering in the Knowledge – 5-12 November, 2021.

Join Sara Wickham for a week of online learning, discussion and reflection which will help update you on new birth-related research and thinking. You’ll feel refreshed, inspired and full of information and ideas to use in your practice and share with women and families.

– We create a fresh version of this course at the beginning of every year and then run it a few times, usually in March, May, July, September and November.

– Each year’s course is completely different from the last and contains new research and discussions.

– We always include research round-ups on key aspects of the childbearing year, including pregnancy, labour/birth and after birth, as well as on a wide variety of current hot topics, which change every year according to what’s happening in practice, research and wider conversations.

– Many people attend every year as a good way of keeping up to date with current evidence and thinking.

– Up to 24 hours of guided learning are available in this course. If you’re in the UK, you will also be able to count the additional hours that you spend engaging with others as ‘participatory hours’ according to the NMC definition. Many participants spend several hours engaging in participatory learning in our courses. More about participatory hours and how they are defined here.
