What personal data we collect and why we collect it
You will know about most of the data that we collect because you directly provide it when you sign up for our newsletter, type your name, email address and/or website into a comment form or sign up for one of our services, such as an online course. We may collect your personal or business contact details such as your name, address, telephone number and email address. We do not collect, store or use any “special categories” data as this is defined under GDPR.
Like any business, we need to keep accounts and records. We may use the information to improve our services, to send you information about new books and services (but only if you have specifically agreed to that by signing up to our newsletter list) and, from time to time, we may invite you to take part in market research to see if we can better meet the needs of those who use our website and services. We will never disclose your data to third parties (other than third party service providers) unless you have consented for us to do this. The exception to this is if we are required to disclose data either contractually or by law or enactment.

How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. it also enables you to change or delete your comment later.
We will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. We will typically retain emails, key online course data (not including personal discussions) and data relating to consultancy projects or other paid work for 7 years after completion of the job. This is because we may be required to product that data for legal or accounting purposes. This means that we have a legitimate business interest in retaining the data.
You can ask to see the data that we hold on you. A ‘reasonable fee’ may be charged if a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive, and especially if it is repetitive. This fee is based on the administrative cost of providing the information.
You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will remove you and all your data from our mailing list and any related systems.
You can delete a comment left on our website at any time or request deletion by emailing us at email@example.com – please give us the exact url of the page on which your comment appears and the full text of the comment.
